On March 30, 30 cabin crew from SAS will take part in the pilot round of 3-day fast track medical training at Sophiahemmet University. After training, all will be offered work at a number of municipal and private healthcare providers in the Stockholm area.
Thanks to an increased grant of SEK 6 million from the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation, the training can be scaled up from 30 to at least 300 places starting April 6. We will also open the program for applications from laid-off cabin crew from other airlines and other personnel who have previous medical training.
Sophiahemmet hospital and other municipal and private healthcare providers are ready to take the graduates onboard starting on April 2. Additional healthcare providers in the Stockholm area, including Stockholm municipality, have shown great interest in bringing in graduates of the training to relieve some of the burden faced by hard-pressed healthcare professionals in the wake of the coronavirus.
