Visiting professorships in the green sector

The “Green Sector for Sweden’s Future” project intends to fund guest professorships for an academic year at Swedish universities for five prominent international researchers.

The green sector has a central part to play in achieving the UN sustainable development goals and sustainable use of natural resources under the umbrella of Agenda 2030. Moves include climate-neutral and more efficient agriculture, new food and other arable crops, the contribution of forestry to a circular economy, and increased production of fish for food while maintaining wild fish stocks.

During 2014–2018 Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry (KSLA) are funding seven guest professorships – Wallenberg professorships – in this field. Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation is now funding five guest professorships during 2021–2025 to facilitate continuing research in these fields, and to bolster the competitiveness of Sweden’s green sectors.

International cooperation is essential to meet the global challenges we face, and the Wallenberg professors will make an important contribution to development and internationalization of research in Sweden, and also offer an exchange of experience with skilled practitioners in the field of modern methodology.

All Swedish universities are eligible to apply for a Wallenberg professorship.
